Description
WaltherPark is located in the heart of Bolzano. In the historic center, between the train station and Piazza Walther, the city's most important square. Close to Bolzano Cathedral, the university, and right next to the newly redesigned station park. As part of the redevelopment of the entire district, WaltherPark is becoming a magnet for visitors from the city itself, the region – and far beyond.
Integrated into a forward-looking transport and infrastructure concept, WaltherPark is becoming a vibrant new meeting point in the heart of the city. It will feature 76 apartments, 34 investment apartments, 90 new shops, and 805 parking spaces – all in line with Bolzano's urban development master plan.
A residential building designed to meet every conceivable need: from compact one- or two-room apartments to spacious three- or four-room units. Five of the buildings above the shopping center are dedicated to elegantly Italian-style apartments. From the third to the seventh floor, flexible units await their future owners, from single apartments to second homes to penthouses. For maximum light and air, each one features a loggia, terrace, or private garden. The planted rooftop areas on the 3rd floor guarantee private, secure access to the apartments, surrounded by nature. From here, the view stretches out: over Renon, the Rosengarten, and the old town with Piazza Walther and Bolzano Cathedral.
The tall panoramic windows stand out and immediately impress thanks to their unique views of the city and the surrounding park. The modern, exceptional design, realized with environmentally friendly materials, blends perfectly into its surroundings while continually enriching them. Materials and details reflect the value of sustainability. Italian craftsmanship skillfully meets a minimalist, versatile, and edgy style.
With WaltherPark, David Chipperfield Architects are creating a rare multifunctional new building within an Italian historic city center, for the city of Bolzano. British architect David Chipperfield is among the most significant architects of our time. His elegant, iconic designs consistently attract international attention.
Thanks to its innovative climate concept, WaltherPark is being awarded LEED Gold certification, the standard for environmentally friendly and resource-efficient construction. The apartments are being built to the CasaClima A Nature standard.
It is the heart of the new mobility solution for Bolzano's city center: the underground tunnel system. It relieves the busy junction around Piazza Verdi and ensures that, in the future, 10,000 fewer cars will drive through the district above ground each day. Drivers reach the WaltherPark parking garages and the Walther garage directly via the tunnel. WaltherPark's immediate proximity to the train station also makes it conveniently accessible for rail travelers from South Tyrol and beyond. A cyclist underpass at the Loreto bridge puts an end to stops at red lights and provides greater safety. In this way, the journey into the center will become a pure pleasure in the future.
For pedestrians, the newly designed station park on the south side, with its seating, a playground, and a fountain field, offers plenty of space for urban life. On its north side, with footpaths, planting, and green lawns, it provides relaxation. The corner at Viale Stazione and Via Laurin is shaded by a 140-year-old plane tree classified as a natural monument. For a place that welcomes its visitors.
In addition to the 1.1 hectares of public park area, the green roof levels of the newly created WaltherPark building serve as an airy quiet zone for the apartment owners, office users, and hotel guests.
Alpine and Mediterranean at the same time, the interface between Northern and Southern Europe. Bolzano is a place where three languages and three cultures come together with Italian, German, and Ladin. In the historic heart of Bolzano, WaltherPark is creating a green district that puts people at the center.
